Willem Krüger
Legal consultant and non-executive director, South African Bank of Athens
Willem Krüger joined Nedbank’s Legal department in 1975, and was appointed Chief Legal Advisor in 1993, a position which he held until his retirement in 2012. During the course of his career he was appointed as the Nedbank Group’s Company Secretary, had management responsibility for the Nedbank Group’s Corporate Insurance Programme, as well as the bank’s Management Services Division. He was intimately involved in the establishment of The Green Trust in 1990 and was a member of the management board for a number of years thereafter.
He received his BA (Law) from Stellenbosch University, B Proc and LLB from Unisa, and Diploma in Advanced Banking from the University of Johannesburg. He was an honorary professor in Banking Law at Unisa and a past member of the Standing Advisory Committee on the Revision of the Bank’s Act.
He is currently a legal consultant, and an independent non-executive director of the South African Bank of Athens, while also serving on the Audit and Compliance, and Enterprise Risk and Capital Management Committees.
